GO contributes to Leek Day at Gabriola Elementary

An overabundance of leeks at our farm led to an exciting educational opportunity with Gabriola Elementary this February.

Growing Opportunities donated 50 lbs of leeks to the school, which launched Leek Day. Students had the opportunity to get an in-depth lesson about this awesome allium, examining the full-grown vegetable, the seed and the plant gone to seed before getting busy cooking leeks in the kitchen.

Students helped prepare a Korean dish called Pajeon - a leek pancake with a savoury sauce for dipping. Students also had the opportunity to cut up leeks to dehydrate for future use.
